Porn is designed to capture a person’s attention. Often, the actors do things that would not translate well in the real world. Men who use porn can become conditioned to this kind of sexual arousal. But do these scenarios carry over into real life? Can watching porn have long-term side effects on a man’s sexual arousal?

Erotica In The Bedroom

Traditional sex can include erotica, literature or art intended to arouse sexual desire. Such erotica is meant to enhance sexual performance, pleasure or stimulation. However, overindulging in such erotica—albeit written literature, pictures, or videos—can influence a person’s sexual appetite. Hence, it would seem that sex, on its own, no longer meets a person’s sexual expectations. This disappointment results in a dopamine decline and therefore, some men are no longer be in the mood for sex.

Porn’s Affects on Your Sexual Appetite

Men who suffer from erectile dysfunction should consider if porn is having a negative influence on their imagination and sex life. For example, if when with your partner, do you experience a lack of arousal but when viewing porn have no issues? This problem may be what researchers call porn-induced erectile dysfunction. Some studies posit that those suffering from erectile dysfunction, who use porn, could maintain an erection once the porn was discarded entirely.

Removing the Corrupting Influence

The effects of porn can be both positive and negative. Anyone who becomes addicted, however, stands to face issues in the bedroom. The truth is that porn can distort a person’s view of sex, pleasure, and intimacy. After habitually viewing and orgasming to porn, a person can begin to associate the high he feels with sex to porn. This problem can be disastrous for two reasons. Primarily, porn is not real. So any roleplay, fictional fantasy, performance, or stimulation viewed or received is false. It is like watching a commercial for soda and having the pleasure of drinking it while sipping on an empty glass. It just is not real. This falsity can begin to distort a person’s perception of intimacy, leading to a lack of desire for sex.

Secondarily, a person may still be interested in sex, and this is a positive sign, but the actual pleasure he derives from being with a partner or the emotional stimulation from being pleased may be diminished. Because porn distorts reality, a man’s perception of what truly pleases him may become askew. He may be waiting for someone to pleasure him the same way the character in his favorite video is being satisfied. Alternatively, he may be waiting for someone to recreate way he felt while climaxing during his favorite scene. Sadly, both of these scenarios could contribute to premature ejaculation, in addition to erectile dysfunction.

Further, the younger the man when he starts to use porn regularly, the higher the chance it becomes their preference over having sex with a partner. Even worse, the less enjoyment he derives from actually having sex. Reality is harsh, especially when it comes to such delicate matters but removing the hinderance can reverse the damages. Porn-induced symptoms are reversible!

Further Issues With Porn Induced Erectile Dysfunction

Additional health issues can result from this condition. You may know there is a problem but cannot break the cycle, but never give up. Giving up may lead to depression, or embarrassment due to lack of performance and may worsen your addiction to porn. Instead, seek help. Talk to your partner, a therapist, and a doctor.

Of course, this is not a condemnation on all porn. Erotica has its place in the bedroom—toys, literature, pictures, videos, BDSM, etc. But everything done in moderation is beneficial. So, removing porn may be the necessary step right now, but in the future reintroducing it may be okay. The decision is yours.
